Starting school can be an emotional time for you and your child. The Pre-Kinder program has been implemented to make the transition from home/pre-school to school a gentle positive experience, so necessary for the start of school life. It compliments the already existing routines established by your preschool program, to which your child has become accustomed. The advantage of the Pre-Kinder program is that your child will be introduced to school routines and normal school life on a part-time basis (Mondays and/or Thursdays), in a carefully controlled and guided environment. He or she will experience a more formal atmosphere than pre-school and will participate in specially created activities. These will introduce your child to:
-
letter shapes and the sound each makes;
-
pre writing: by tracing pictures and shapes;
-
art craft: painting, cutting, gluing and constructing;
|
|
|
-
pre reading: by matching pictures according to shape, size and direction;
-
pre maths: by sorting objects according to size, shape and colour. Counting 1-10.
-
creating and matching patterns using manipulative materials, and playing with measuring equipment.
-
physical development of fine and gross motor skills.
All the activities will help to prepare your child for kindergarten work and this will enhance their school readiness and make kindergarten easier for them. 'Buddies', older nuturing students, will be assigned to each Pre-Kinder student. This will help to develop their ability to communicate comfortably with older children. Tiredness is often a problem when children start school. Attending Pre-Kinder on a part time basis helps children to cope with busy school days while allowing rest days in between. The program is open to all students who are at least 4 years of age prior to April 30, regardless of where they will be attending school.

So that Pre-Kinder students feel part of the school, they will be required to wear a simplified uniform, available from the school, consisting of:
Winter - Royal blue plants/skirts, a red skivvy and a designed Pre-Kinder pullover.
Summer - Royal blue shorts/skirts and the school designed sports shirt.
One day per week at Pre-Kinder will cost $325 per term. Payments are required for the whole term in advance. To enrol in the Pre-Kinder program, or for more information, please contact the school. Positions are limited as there is a maximum of 15 children per class.
