Education Philosophy

Canberra Christian School is a co-educational primary school.

The educational program of the school emphasizes the development of Christian values in the lives of its students. Parents and carers support the school in encouraging the students to uphold the standards of the school.

The school supplements the work of the Christian home, and every effort is made to work closely with parents so that each child will achieve his / her potential: spiritually, academically, physically and socially.

Canberra Christian School seeks to help all students achieve their full potential, whatever their gifts may appear to be, and to provide for them opportunities to participate in all school activities.

We strive to facilitate a program that encompasses the spiritual, physical, social and academic education for the optimum development of each individual.

Throughout their learning journey, students are encouraged to:

  • Read and speak correctly.
  • Calculate accurately.
  • Write legibly.
  • Be creative.
  • Be physically fit.
  • Appreciate beauty in language, colour and form.
  • Communicate and associate positively with others.
  • Have an understanding of their relationship with God.
To achieve this goal, the School Curriculum is organized into the following Key Learning areas:

  • Bible
  • English
  • Languages other than English (LOTE)
  • Mathematics
  • Personal Development, Health. and Physical Education

  • Science
  • Studies of Society and its Environment (SOSE)

Academic Assessment

Each student's progress is assessed using a combination of methods. These include class projects, assignments, samples of student's work, observation, anecdotal records written and oral tests.

Reporting of Academic progress at school is made in the following ways:

  • An initial written report and parent interview (if required) - approximately 5 weeks into Term One.
  • Mid-Year and compulsory parent interviews - end of Term Two
  • Progress reports and parent interviews (if required) - end of Term Three
  • Year-End Report - distributed at the conclusion of the school year

It is expected that parents/carers will attend the Mid-Year Report night to collect their child's report and discuss progress with teachers.

Homework

The staff at Canberra Christian School believe that homework plays an important role in a child's successful achievement at school.

It is the school's policy that each student completes set homework appropriate to their development level Monday - Thursday nights.
