A head start for your child

Canberra Christian School provides a Pre-Kinder program that is designed to prepare children for school life, to care for their early developmental needs, and to provide an enriching program in a caring Christian environment. Pre-Kinder is similar to pre-school with an enhanced learning program.  We operate on the school grounds within the school schedule allowing your child to become familiar with the daily surroundings, people and routines of school. With no more than 15 students per class your child will receive guidance in the skills and values promoted by and taught at Canberra Christian School.

Our Program

Our Pre-Kinder environment enables the children to gain an appreciation for literacy and numeracy; to work as part of a group, to share, cooperate with and listen to others; a capacity to think, investigate and solve problems; as well as feel safe, secure, and accepted. The daily program is designed to meet the needs of the individual, recognising that children develop at different rates. Each experience is provided with a purpose in mind.

Your child will experience a more formal atmosphere than pre-school and will participate in specially created activities to stimulate young minds.

For Example:

• Letter shapes and the sound each makes based on Jolly Phonics
• Pre writing: by tracing pictures and shapes
• Art and Craft: painting, cutting, gluing and constructing
• Pre reading: by matching pictures according to shape, size and direction
• Pre maths: by sorting objects according to size, shape and colour. Counting
• Creating and matching patterns using manipulative materials, and playing with measuring equipment
• Physical development of fine and gross motor skills
• Bible faith learning through fun games, songs and craft activities

If your child is identified as gifted and talented or requiring special needs, these will be catered for within the classroom program.

At each term end your child will bring home a compilation of their work in the form of a portfolio and will be able to show you their accomplishments with pride.

Buddies Program

Canberra Christian School operates a Buddies Program where we encourage our older grade students to mentor the younger classes.  This involves classroom activities to establish bonds between the children that are then extended into the playground where all grades interact freely, fostering healthy relationships. Both the younger and older children enjoy this program.

• DAYS AVAILABLE: Pre-Kinder runs on Mondays and Thursdays from 9am - 3pm. You can choose to enrol your child for 1 day or 2 days per week.
• COST: $375 per term if attending one day per week; $750 per term if attending 2 days per week.
• AGE: All students being enrolled for Pre-Kinder should reach the age of 4 years, on or before 30th April of the year of enrolment.

Orientation Sessions for applicants into Pre-Kinder will be held during the month of November to help ensure a smooth transition to school life.
